I can’t remember the first time I saw Jonathan, though I think it must have been in “It”. Then it was “Ladybugs” and “Sidekicks”, and then my joy at him grabbing the leading role in three seasons of “SeaQuest”. For six or seven years, he was the epitome of all I wanted in a guy. That mane of flaxen hair, beauty, a certain geekiness that only added to his charms. I remember that 1995 wall calendar my parents made me take down and how happy I was to put it back that March when I moved out and was renting a room across town. The last things I remember seeing him in were “Outside Providence” and “Ride with the Devil”, in which his good looks were only marred by straggly facial hair in an attempt to appear older for more mature roles. His suicide in November of 2003 at the age of 27, largely because of not being able to cope with his inability to get the acting roles he wanted, was profoundly affecting, in the way only River Phoenix’s death had been to me. His loss still saddens me greatly, and I only wish he’d had someone in his life to appreciate him they way he deserved.
