So, One Direction finally has its first single out, and it’s a catchy, vaguely retro, typical boy-band pop song. But dang ain’t they all cute. Too bad Niall decided to be a bit overly modest. Obviously, they are cute as a button, which explains a huge amount of their popularity. Vocally, well .. .they sound good when they sing in chorus, but, well, their solos are a bit lacking. Live, they aren’t quite as bad as say Dream Street, but they are a far cry from McFly, let alone the truly great vocal boybands of the 90’s, like BSB, N*Sync, Take That and Hanson. Still, they will likely get a record deal, and I’ll dutifully buy the album like the boi-crazy fanatic that I am. |
